There are two most urgent areas that EFS is in need of volunteers:
The first need: EFS will be having a booth at the Eugene Celebration Community Causeway. The dates & times are Saturday Sept 13 from 11-7 and Sunday, 14, 11-5. We will need folks for two hour shifts and also folks for set up and take down. Last year we had a great time meeting friends and talking about dancing to everyone at the Eugene Celebration. If you would like to volunteer at the booth this year, contact Patricia at 686-6117. Be sure to stop by and say Hello if you attend the celebration!
The second need: we're looking for some dance openers (dance openers for that evening get into the dance for free) and we're hoping that you check out your schedule and see what date would work for you to help open the dance. Just a reminder, there is a house manager that is in charge so if you have any questions or something comes up you can refer to that person. Cool isn't it? Please feel free to call Patricia at 686-6117 or email me if you you're interested. Once again we couldn't do it without you and your help does make a difference! If being a dance opener isn't your thing, perhaps there is another job you would like to do? Here are some other ways you can volunteer:
Saturday, September 13th: William Watson calling with music by Tunestruck from Portland.
William Watson danced his first contra in 1989 and began calling in Texas in 1992. Having called numerous contra events in 18 cities coast-to-coast, William's extensive experience and soothing voice project a calm confidence. His vigilant and thoughtful dance programming ensures a variety of figures, transitions, and sequences to entertain and support new dancers while offering the occasional challenge for the more advanced. His calling proficiency and sensitivities ensure everyone has a good time.
Tunestruck is a solid, gracious contra band from Portland. Lori Shaffer on fiddle, Gordy Euler on fiddle, and Jim Bell on guitar. Three veteran performers, the powerful sound of twin fiddles, and a rock-solid beat behind it all. This is a new combination of fine musicians. Come and enjoy the dancing!
Saturday, September 27th: Woody Lane calling with music by Three-Fingered Jack from Corvallis.
Woody Lane is known for his smooth contras, fast squares, and superb programming, Woody calls extensively throughout the Pacific Northwest and has a growing reputation throughout the country. Also an accomplished clogger, he often accompanies the band as a foot percussionist, raising the energy level on the dance floor to wonderful heights.Three-Fingered Jack is a luscious 4-piece band from Corvallis with a beautiful sound. Shari Ami on fiddle, Bruce Marbin on guitar and bouzouki, Beth Brown on cello, and Laureen Urey on bodhran (pronounced "Bor-on"). Their music leans towards the Irish side of things, but their bag of tricks includes a healthy dose of old-time Appalachian tunes as well.
If you are already a dancer and you would like to volunteer to come and help out, please call me also.
