Oregon Public Networking
System Administrator Posistion

Overview:

Oregon Public Networking is based in Eugene, OR, and operates a community-based civic network in Eugene, Springfield, and Oakridge, soon expanding to Florence and other sites in southern Oregon. OPN is a 501(c)(3) private non-profit organization run by an active, hands-on Board of Directors, with a staff that includes, in addition to system administrators, a two-person paid Community Development department, a two-person paid Administrative Office staff, and usually 100 active volunteers.

OPN's systems include several Sun Sparcstations running SunOS 4 and Sun NFS, an Internet router, Livingston Portmaster terminal servers, an internal ethernet, and approximately 200 phone lines. We provide WWW, mail, news, gopher, shell, and Dialup-IP service for 8,000 members.

We are seeking a Managing System Administrator with demonstrated interests and abilities in civic networking. We hope to find a person who will insure that our systems are functional, reliable, and secure, and who can effectively communicate and negotiate with OPN's non-technical staff and directors concerning the technical infrastructure for implementing OPN's organizational mission. Because of the abundance of networking expertise in the OPN community, a candidate who posesses superior communications skills and is able to supervise staff and volunteers while maintaining system integrity will be considered even if lacking in a particul area of technical ability.
