The Eugene Peace Choir, based in Eugene,
Oregon, is secular and ranges in age and experience.
Evolving from an intermediate base, the
Choir equally values musicality, message, and friendship.
By creating and sharing songs, based on community singing and our values, we catalyze change.
The Choir encourages diverse, accessible
music styles, at times humorous, serious, healing or political.

Rules:
1. Each entry must consist of all of
the following: * A completed and signed
entry form (or photocopy). All signatures must be original; * CD(s)
or audio cassette(s), each containing one song only, five (5) minutes or
less in length; * Complete score in
open voicing; * Lyric sheet typed or
printed legibly; please include English translation if applicable; * Digital file (midi file or other format,
compatible with Sibelius); * SASE (with sufficient stamps for notification
* Signature below, after reading all rules carefully.
2. Each song submitted must be contestant’s
original work and contemporary, scored for multi-part vocals. Contemporary means songs created or adapted
within the last few years with a 21st century, global
perspective. Songs may not exceed five
(5) minutes in length. No song
previously recorded and released through major national distribution in any
country will be eligible. Entries may
have multiple co-writers and be listed on the application by attaching an
additional sheet. EPC is not
responsible for late, lost, damaged, misdirected, postage due, stolen, or
misappropriated entries.
3. First Prize Winner will receive $250.00
in cash. Second Prize Winner will
receive $100.00 in cash. Third Prize
Winner will receive $50.00 in cash. Not
all prizes may be awarded each year, depending on quality of entries received. Recognition occurs at the first performance
of the winning entries, by local press release and website. Additional benefits are possible, but not
guaranteed. Prizes will be awarded
jointly to all authors of any song; division of prizes is the responsibility of
the winners. Terms are void where prohibited.
All federal, state, and local laws and regulations apply.
4. The contest is open to amateur and
professional songwriters. Employees and
contractors of EPC are not eligible.
5. Winners will be chosen by judges, selected
by the Director, Assistant Director, and members of EPC. Songs will be judged based upon merits, not
the quality of the submitted performance and production. Merits include
artistry (melody, composition, lyrics) and message (inspiring, peaceful
activism).
6. Winners will be notified by mail and must sign
and return an affidavit of eligibility/recording rights/publicity release
within 14 days of the notification date.
The affidavit will state that the winner’s song is original work, she or
he holds all rights to the song, and EPC has the winner’s irrevocable
permission to copy sing, record, and distribute up to 5000 copies this song
over an unlimited duration. Failure to
sign and return such affidavit within 14 days or provision of false or
inaccurate information therein will result in immediate disqualification and an
alternate winner will be selected.
Affidavits of winners under 18
years of age at the time of the award must be countersigned by the parent or
legal guardian. Affidavits are subject
to verification by EPC and its agents.
Entry constitutes permission to use the winners’ names, likenesses, and
voices for future advertising and publicity purposes without additional
compensation.
