Wallowa Ski Trip - March 2008
We returned to the Wing Ridge Hut after two years.
March 9th
The skies cleared on our third day. The overnight temperatures were in the teens. The group climbed up Middle Ridge to about 8,000 feet. At this point we split up into two groups maintaining contact via radio. Simon, Jen, Tom and I watched Kevin, Peter and Jason drop into the bowl between Middle and Phat Ridges. Then encountered a slight crust at the top and then enjoyed untracked powder below. Simon, Jen, Tom and I then scouted a line into 1st Bowl via a chute that was narrow at top and then opened up nicely. Then ski down was the best of the trip so far. Once we hit the bottom of the chute, Simon led us back up the ridge for another run down a nearby chute. We decided to head back to camp for some hot drinks and a rendezvous with the rest of the group. After a well-earned rest, we climbed back up the ridge as a group to pick another chute with fresh turns.
