Confederate cemetary - Johnson's Island

In the late fall of 1861, Johnson's Island became the site of a Civil War Prisoner of War Depot. The first POWs arrived on the island on April 10th, 1862. The prison was closed in September 1865. During its life, between nine and ten thousand prisoners were confined on Johnson's Island at different times. The Confederate cemetary holds the remains of 210 men who were imprisoned on Johnson's Island.
