Welcome to the Pirates! Legend- Pirate Treasure: Oak Island section.

Many find it hard to believe that today’s modern technology, and modern science is unable to conquer something as simple as recovering buried treasure. The Money Pit, located on Oak Island, Nova Scotia, has provided treasure seekers of all sorts, with a complex riddle that has plagued even the most renowned experts. The treasure (or something else) is buried deep underground, and is protected by a booby trap, that fills any excavation with water before the treasure is even reached. Millions of dollars and several lives have already been lost in the hope of acquiring this prize; none have been successful. Little is even known about this so-called "treasure", there are many theories, the more prevalent pertaining to our web site’s topic we will detail below.

The first theory concerns Captain William Kidd (the notorious pirate) and his legendary secret treasure cache. Many stories exist about pirates (thought to be crew members under Kidd’s command) confessing to their loved ones the location of Kidd’s treasure. As well, periodic appearances of Kidd’s maps have also hinted Oak Island as the location of Kidd’s buried treasure. This theory would possibly make expensive endeavors to excavate the treasure worthwhile; although experts speculate that even Kidd’s treasure would not pay for the debts acquired during such an excavation.

Some believe that pirates used the island as something of a community bank. It is believed that each group of cutthroats would dig deep and long tunnels off the main Money Pit shaft in order to hide their treasure. If they wanted to retrieve it, all they had to do was dig down through untouched dirt to get their wealth.
