Interactive Powerflow Program Overview

IPF Overview

IPF for Linux on i386 PC's -- with Graphic User Interface - (GUI)

IPF has been updated and tested to work with Redhat Linux 6.2, 7.2, 7.3, 8.0, 9.0; Redhat Enterprise Linux Workstation 3.0, WhiteBox Enterprise Linux 3.0, and Fedora Core3

Note: Depending your choice of packages at installation time, RHEL 3.0, WBEL 3.0, Fedora Core3 distributions may use ggv instead of gv for the Postscript Viewer/Printer application. IPF is hard-coded to use gv.

All you have to do is look on the distribution CD's for the gv RPM package and install it, or copy the /usr/bin/ggv executable to /bin, and rename it there to "gv", and it will work with the "Print Plot" menu item on the IPF GUI.

The downloadable files include one full /shr directory with source code for IPF-3.27, Ipf-3.31, IPF-3.33, TSP-6.07, and SFAP-1.01 for Linux; and one file containing just the source code for IPF-3.33.

We have added a download link below, so that you can download a tar.gz file containing a full replacement /shr directory. It contains updated "Makefile" versions setup so that you can type "make clean" and then "make" to recompile and install executables, but you can do that only after first setting the proper environment variables, with the proper .bash_profile copied from the appropriate "sample.bash_profile" included with the source code packages.

In order to update your Linux IPF-3.27 and IPF-3.31 executables, first cd to /root and copy the ipf-3.27 version of the sample .bash_profile and log out and then login, or use the command "source" to set the 3.27 variables. Then, cd to /shr and type "make clean" and then "make" to compile and install the ipf-3.27, tsp-6.07, and sfap-1.01 executables in /bin.

Then repeat setting the environment variable for 3.31, as descibed above. Then, cd to /shr/ipf-3.31 and type "make clean" and then "make" to compile and install the ipf-3.31 executables.

Follow the same procedure for IPF-3.33.

Updated IPF Install Instructions, for Redhat 9.0 and earlier)

Replacement GUI Makefiles for Redhat 7.3 (30-kB .TAR file)

As of 12-21-2002, we have successfully tested the IPF GUI on Redhat Linux versions 6.2 through 7.2 with the version of OpenMotif 2.1.30 available from MetroLink. -- Download Link -- Download and install both "openmotif-2.1.30-x..." and "openmotif-devel-2.1.30-x..." packages, along with the README and LICENSE files.

The openmotif versions that come with Redhat 7.3, 8.0, 9.0, RHEL 3.0, WBEL 3.0, and Fedora Core3 will work as-is and do not need to be replaced with the earlier version of OpenMotif described above
