Interactive PowerFlow Program (IPF), ver. 3.27 for Windows 95/98/NT4/2000:

Interactive Powerflow (IPF), version 3.27, running on the PC platform with the Microsoft Windows 95/98/NT4/2000 operating systems: This covers hardware requirements for computer system PC setup, pre-compiled IPF program executables installation for Microsoft Windows platform. Version 3.27 has been tested with the following: Microsoft Windows NT4, Service Packs 3, 4 and 5; and Windows 2000 in BATCH-MODE-ONLY, using the Cygnus/Cygwin operating environment.

The IPF Graphic User Interface (GUI ) is NOT presently available for the Microsoft Windows platform.

The Interactive PowerFlow Program models the balanced steady-state operation of an electric power network. It is used by power system planners and design engineers to investigate electric power networks, determine bus voltage distribution, line real and reactive power flows, line overloads, system reactive requirements, area controls, effect of load shedding, generator dropping, and line outages.

Currently, the program efficiently uses computer resources through the implementation of advanced techniques of large system analyses, including the Newton-Raphson method for solving second order algebraic equations and sparse-matrix computation techniques. Typically, it solves a 12,000 bus network and requires 64 MB of virtual storage. The state-of-the-art Graphical User Interface (GUI) has been integrated into the IPF using the X Window System/Motif (not available for Microsoft Windows Platforms.

The IPF runs on various platforms which support the X Window System/Motif - Window Manager, Graphic User Interface. At BPA, IPF is used on VAX/VMS mainframes, VAX/VMS Stations, DECStations, DEC-Alpha, and properly configured PCs running Unixware, Linux, or NT4. For PC’s running Windows 95/98/NT4/2000 the recommended configuration is:
