He married Gertrud Kohler 2 on May 4, 1848 in Boston, Massachusetts at Holy Trinity Church.

The groom was a brass finisher in Boston and lived in Roxbury, Massachusetts at the time of their marriage.3
The bride also lived in Roxbury, although she was born in Germany.

Her parents were Konrad Kohler and Catharina Schwaab.

Joseph died on December 25, 1893 in Boston.
Gertrud died on August 23, 1899 in Boston.

They were the parents of the following children:


Victoria
was born on March 8, 1849 in Roxbury and was christened on March 17, 1849 in Boston at Holy Trinity Church.
(Sponsors were Jacob Ambs and Victoria Ambs, geb. Nock.)4

Joseph P.
was born on March 14, 1850 and was christened on March 16, 1850 in Boston at Holy Trinity Church.
(Sponsors were Jacob Ambs and Victoria Ambs, geb. Nock.)4
He married Elisabeth Agnes Becker on January 15, 1882 in Boston at Holy Trinity Church.

Catherine
was born onDecember 17, 1851 and was christened on the December 21, 1851 in Boston at Holy Trinity Church.
(Sponsors were John Becker and Martha Becker.)
She died before 1855.

Wiliam P.
was born on January 17, 1853 and was christened in Boston at Holy Trinity Church.
(Sponsors were Jacob Ambs and Barbara Ambs, geb Eckert.)

Maria Anna
was born on June 10, 1857 and was christened on June 17, 1857 in Boston at Holy Trinity Church.
(Sponsors were Albert Vogel and Martha Vogel, geb. Becker.)
She married Joseph Dierkes on February 14, 1882 in Boston at Holy Trinity Church.

Josephine
was born on May 13, 1859 and was christened on May 17, 1859 in Boston at Holy Trinity Church.
(One of the sponsors was Phillipina Martin, geb. Walter.)
She died on August 19, 1859.

 

NOTES:

1. All of the records, excepting that of his baptism, show that he was always referred to as Joseph Fix.

2. On her death certificate it was indicated that her parents were named Conrad and Catherine.

3. Their marriage intention form was filed at the municipal offices in Roxbury, Massachusetts.

4. Jacob Ambs and his first wife were from villages near Steinach i. K., which was the same birthplace of Joseph Fix.

The Ambs', who were not as yet married, were passengers on the Ship "Excelsior", which arrived in New York on June 9, 1846. Also aboard that vessel was a Gertrude Kohler as were a number of others who settled in Boston.
