I had long intended for my thesis to be a major dance piece. However, when the choreographer I had begun working with got pregnant and had to drop out, I decided to try a "simple, one act opera." I asked Robert to write the libretto and told him to make it about anything he liked. He came up with this scenario about a composer working on his thesis and, as only Robert could do, made it a whole lot more interesting than that might sound. It consists of 13 sections as follows:
Overture
A Long Time Coming
My Creative Space
Imaginary Orchestra
How Great Thou Art
Nobody Really Cares About Me
We've Come A Long Way
A Suggested Scene
You've Said That Before
How Can I Find Time?
We'll Name Him Quinn
Despair Theme
Our Life Is Art (Finale)
Many thanks to all who worked on this show and all who attended and we will see you at the reception at the Collier House!
