Television For Kids

By Jon Abinante, and Jimmy Wray

These days Television has a bigger influence on kids than ever. If violence is all that children see on T.V. than chances are that kids will start thinking and acting in violent ways. For this reason it is important that what children watch on T.V.should be censored.

On our chart we divided the topic "T.V. for kids" into two smaller topics, "T.V. for itty-bitty children" and "T.V. for big peoples". We divided our subject in this way to have more definition between subjects and also for ease of use by any individual trying to read the chart and understand it's meaning.

In each of our smaller topics we listed examples of shows that we felt were appropriate for that age group. In T.V. for itty-bitty children we listed Sesame Street, Nick Junior, and Arthur. We divided Sesame Street by positive and negative characters such as Grover, Elmo, Snufflupagus, and Big Bird (positive) and Cookie Monster (steals peoples cookies!!!), and Oscar the Grouch (is always grouchy!!!). We thought Nick Junior was not okay for viewing by young children, or anyone for that matter, because of itıs overuse of mythical, funny looking, unacceptable, spoiled, self esteem lowering, CARTOON CHARACTERS!!!!! But Arthur is a fine show. We think there's nothing wrong with Arthur.

In Our other section, T.V. for Big Peoples we decided to divide our topic differently, positive and negative television. In the positive television section we have only one section, MTV. which we thought was the only positive television programming broadcasted to the older audience. In the other section, Negative television we also only have one section, cartoon network, which we thought was not appropriate for children of any age because of the large amounts of violence.

     Thank you and good night.
