Music from
"In The Year Of Our Lord"

"In The Year Of Our Lord" is an on-going collection of hymns, Psalms, canons, and Liturgy pieces: a mission of the United Lutheran Church of Eugene Oregon, where Thomas Dodd is Pastor and Philip Bayles in Music Director. The two work together, with abundant input from members of the members of the choir and congregation creating new musical pieces for worship. The aim is to have music in a style that is "passionately convergent": that is, easy to play and sing, music with appeal for young and old together, and pieces that work with both traditional organ and choir or more contemporary worship ensembles.

The following links are to ready to print PDF files of the music from the collection.

"In the Rain and the Sun" is a hymn of thanksgiving,
filled with thoughtful contrasts,
and may be sung as a 2 or three part canon. It is a fine offertory hymn.

In the Rain and In the Sun

This new setting of the Lord's Prayer
is simple enough to be sung directly by the congregation,
and may also be done as a vocal solo
or a SATB choral offering.

Lord's Prayer

This Magnificat imagines that the young Mary
might well feel joy with a dancing quality.

This hymn is a celebration of God's creation
and our call to be good stewards of this magnificent gift.

Forest Hymn

This Kyrie is one section of our "Luther/Blues" Liturgy setting.
Martin Luther suggested specific melodic shapes for chanting scripture
with a view to making the Word clear and understandable for everyone.
We use his melodic chant formula with a touch of
American blues style rhythms and modes for a convergent mix.

A simple unison setting of Psalm 133

Psalm 133

A celebratory setting of Psalm 118 with refrain in unison and verses in harmony.

Psalm 118
