Meeting called to order 1:00pm

  1. Treasurers Report
We have $1251.59. Road clean up broke even on donations for food so we don't owe any money on that. Billy wrote check for $26 to Rob for coffee at the PNW conference, does not want to be reimbursed, Thanks Billy!! Current with national as far as Treasurers report. $500/chapter available from national. Dave is taking on responsibility for writing up proposal. Proposal: $ needed for blue water task force and booth at Longboard Contest.
  2. PNW Conference Notes distributed.
Read on your own. It was awesome!
  3. MPA Meeting Report
Update on PNW status of MPAs. Purpose: to gather info, meet folks working on similar issues. Topics: Fisherman, how to be sensitive to their needs, while also letting them know how they affect the marine environment. Dave has literature if anyone wants info. Is there anyone who can be our contact person/expert? Dave offered his girlfriend, Rondi - who is actually writing her thesis on this topic. Dave will speak with her.
  4. Adopt A Highway
Over 50 bags of trash collected. 14 folks, majority from Surfrider (way to go guys, we rock!). Deb and Greg from fall creek saw it on the website and just showed up. They were kick ass and awesome. Really appreciated everyones help. Proposed date for second clean up - 28 July 2001, time TBA. We get our sign at the end of the second clean up so we would like to get it done earlier than later. Still looking for donations from hotels/motels (free room, etc.) to raffle off to folks who help us out. We need more folks to help out next time. Billy thinks we need 16 groups. It took 2hours/quarter mile this time. We would also like to include picking up trash from the beach at some point. We need this event posted to the website, and posted in surf shops.
  5. Blue water task force
PJ needs a list of potential samplers located up and down the coast. They need to be reliable and consistant. We need to make sure that the sample gets where it needs to be in a timely manner. Post on web-page for volunteers. Contact Boots McGee of the Santa Cruz chapter for tips on how he set his voluteers up. Proposed testing sites: Seaside, PC, Florence, and Coos Bay. DEQ has volunteered equipment for transportation. Billy has email from PJ for anyone who wants more info. Spill outs - raw sewage overflowing out onto the beaches - this happens occationally. PJ has been set up to receive notice when this happens, he will contact us and we are to post warnings for sites on the website so that surfers and other ocean enthusiasts are warned of areas to avoid. Permit for Coos Bay plant will be up for renewal in about a year. With blue water task force we will have documented info regarding water quality there.
  6. T-shirts
An order has been placed, no screens. Long and short sleeved. LS natural: med 12, lg 24, xlg 24. SS white: med 6, lg 24, xlg 12. T-shirts will arrive this week. From the head honchos: We can no longer manipulate the logo into the shape of Oregon, it can only be in a box. We must also always say Surfrider Foundation - not just Surfrider. So in the future we need the shirts to say: Oregon Chapter, Surfrider Foundation. Oregon and Surfrider larger in printed font, chapter and foundation smaller and scripted. T-shirt committee will regroup and get back to us. Last year we sold more short sleeve than long sleeves. Logo in the center of the chest, or writing? Committee will decide and get back to us. Thanks guys, you are awesome!
  7. May event
PSA went out - thanks Dave and Andrew!
Donica and Chris Speakman made a poster - fantastic!!! These need to go out to surf shops TODAY! Thanks guys!!!!!! In the future it would be better to say Mother Ocean's Day instead of Mother's Day for Mother Ocean - this may be confusing for folks since the event is on Saturday not Sunday.
Report Card - We should use Nationals report card/state of the beach report. It has already been done. Will go out officially a week after the event. Billy will call Chad Nelson to get a copy by the event. It will be on the website soon. Kevin advises that we get a copy of the entire report so we can compare and contrast ourselves to other states. Flags will not be translated into ABCDF, we will use flags just like national uses.
Billy and Ralph will both speak.
We don't want to seem elitist, we want it to be casual.
Billy will ask Bob Ledbetter for megaphone.
Donica and Tina are setting up a booth. Table for booth will be put in Billy's van today. Booth will be up 11:00am - 3:00pm. Come buy your stickers, T-shirts, say "howdy" to the crazy girl with the pink hair and wings...
  8. Volleyball Tournament
Billy will contact the guy from the tounament again. We will need a written contract. At the minimum we would like to have a booth of our own accord.
  9. Cape Kiwanda Contest
We would like to get a house for that weekend, needs to be two nights. One big house. If necessary we will get a second house.
Billy has 10 judges, 5 folks for the booth, and several folks to contact for various odd jobs/jersey distribution. Please have anyone interested in helping out contact Billy ASAP. Thanks!
  10. Opens
Dave needs some help with all of his responsiblilties. Chris may be leaving.
Billy placed an order from national. $180. 3 girls baseball tees. 5 license plate covers, 10 racerS T-shirts, 40 stickers, 3 calenders. We should get media packets for the booth.
