Surfrider Foundation Oregon Chapter Executive Council Meeting
Open Meeting
Pacific City, OR
21 July 2001
Members present:
Tina Torri
Meeting called to order 1:07pm.
Treasurer not present to give report.
No one from T-shirt committee present to give update.
Rich was going to email everyone of the mock ups when they were ready.
Will T-shirts be ready by the 27th July? There is a benefit concert for the Oregon Chapter the 27th and 28th July and we will have a booth. We would like to sell the Oregon T-shirts there if they can be ready in time. We would also like to have them available for members to purchase and wear during the road clean up on the 28th July. And we also need them for the surf contest 4-5 August in PC.
Billy not present to give an update.
This issue was tabled at the last meeting, but Rich was going to get Billy another contact. Also, interest was expressed at having a booth there regardless. Is anyone doing this?
Ryan from Segue Productions has very generously offered to hold a benefit concert for our Oregon Chapter!!!!! Yipppeeee. Any proceeds from this two-day event will go to us!
The concert will be held at the B-complex (320 SE 2nd Ave, Portland)
We will have a booth. We have a number of volunteers for the booth including some members from Portland. Billy, what do we need for the booth? (Table, banner, tape???) When can we get into the building to set up the booth? Where are the volunteers meeting and what time? What is up with the fliers we are supposed to hand out? Is there anything legal/national-oriented that we need to do before the event happens?
No one present to give update.
The committee (Greg, Ralph, John marra, Billy, Chris, and Emory) were going to look into the possiblity of a movie event in portland.
Dave not present to give report… what Tina remembers…
Our grant request for $500 was approved, I imagine we should have the check already… Rich?
No one present to give an update.
Billy was going to contact PJ an report back to us in one month regarding being in charge of testing sites along the coast and coordinating volunteers. Has Greg Chilina been set up to test the South Jetty/Florence area?
Dave not present to give an update.
Dave was going to attend a meeting in Salem on Marine Protected Areas and get back to us. He has also been in contact with Kevin Ranker and traveled the coast with a couple of organizations as the Surfrider liaison.
Billy not present to report on the longboard contest, so Tina gets the stand…
We have enough judges, we have a few people to help out at the booth, we still need volunteers to be spotters, and to help hand out jerseys. Does Bob have any folks in line to help out with jerseys if we don’t round up enough people? Is he expecting us to cover this?
Dave will bring his table for the booth.
Billy will bring banners for the booth and all national T-shirts and items to sell.
Tina has some T-shirts too and she will bring those.
The judges meeting needs to be coordinated. Should we still try to have it a week before the contest? Or should it happen Friday night (3rd) in PC?
Housing – we have two houses reserved for the contest weekend. We have 11-12 folks confirmed for housing and we need more folks to sleep on the couches/floor to help off-set the cost of the rentals so that surfrider is not stuck paying for a large part of the housing costs. Per person housing cost is $20/person/night in a bed, $15/person/night if on a couch or on the floor. Together the houses cost $690, we have approximately $470 covered; leaving surfrider to cover approx. $220 if we do not have anymore "bunkers".
Are we planning to place an order with national for T-shirts for our upcoming events? They are only 1-2 weeks away!! We probably don’t need a large number of t-shirts if we will have our OR shirts, but folks at the May event liked having a selection to choose from. Billy, please co-ordinate with tina and Rich.
Ralph is not present to report on this.
Meet at the Moolach parking lot at noon to watch the video on eat PIZZA!
I don’t think that this event is posted on our website – it is suggested that Ralph contact Kurt to get this on the website in order to alert members. It is also suggested that Ralph send out an email to the list to let folks know of this event.
Kimmie not present to report on this.
Deadline for the next issue was 13 july 2001.
We are hoping to have the next issue available and in hard copy by the PC contest. Greg said he could print hard copies at his work. Kimmie, please co-ordinate with Greg.
Ralph not present to report on this issue.
Ralph was going to look into getting a PO box and the coast, and start triaging OR mail.

We have a number of very generous and talented Portland members who have offered to help make posters for Portland meetings, and to help us come up with fundraising ideas. Looks very very promising!!
