The Fight for Wetlands

New study on wetlands loss shows need for stronger legal protections:    U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service study shows America is losing nearly 120,000 acres of wetlands yearly.

1995: Is there a Eugene Wetlands in our future?: The Army Corps of Engineers grants a permit to build on the Greenhill site, also a wetland area, but no tenant named.

1998:  Commissioner Cornacchia's plan to redo West Eugene Wetland Plan: The final step in approving the proposed revisions to the  Plan  is derailed once again following a delay of over a year.

1995:  Playing God: CPA describes the mitigation plan Hyundai Electronics America (HEA) submitted to the Dept. of Environmental Quality (DEQ)  as "a fanciful creation of a perennial mountain stream" .

The Highway to Nowhere back on the agenda:  The West Eugene Parkway (WEP),  first proposed in 1979,  has been a battleground ever since.

1998:  West Eugene Wetlands Plan revisions put on hold again:  The vote on the Plan, which has met with one delay after another since the process began in 1995, is deferred once again.
